As the pandemic altered life in 2020, the number of violent crimes committed in Kentucky increased, however, the number of homicides among young people in Kentucky has dropped significantly in recent years. This has a lot to do with organizations coming together to help provide hope.

Violence can occur when someone is without hope and a sense that no one cares, but by working with those in need, we can help fill that void. Whether it’s helping someone pay their bills, working with substance abuse, finding educational resources, or helping a loved one with mental illness, we can make a difference.

Kentucky isn’t alone in seeing an increase in violent crimes. The estimated number of violent crimes in the nation increased in 2020 and 2021, and in Kentucky, the crimes involving violence among teenagers and young adults tripled from 2018 to 2021. How has this changed? By providing youth and mental health services. Therapists and case managers see hope as a positive state for setting and achieving goals and helping people find what they need out of life. When someone realizes there are options and resources, it can boost their psychological functioning by building goal thoughts and mindset skills to achieve them. One way is by giving people in need a sense of hope.
